Extraction 2 Movie Review: Chris Hemsworth Ignites The Screen With Intense, Adrenaline-Pumping Action

Extraction 2, the sequel to Netflix's hit film Extraction, brings back Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake in another thrilling action-packed adventure. Directed by Sam Hargrave, who impressively debuted in the first film, and with a script by Joe Russo, the movie immediately picks up after the events of its predecessor. Rake, barely alive, returns as the Australian black ops mercenary, this time assigned with the dangerous mission of rescuing a battered family from the clutches of a ruthless Georgian gangster held in a formidable prison.

One of the standout aspects of Extraction 2 is its top-notch action sequences. Hargrave's background as a stunt coordinator shines through as the film allows the action to unfold organically, capturing every punch, stab, and shot without resorting to the use of jump cuts. Whether in wide open spaces or confined quarters, the fight choreography and direction create an exciting and immersive experience, relying on the talent and dedication of the actors, Hemsworth and Golshifteh Farahani.

The use of one-shots in certain scenes, such as a thrilling chase sequence, demonstrates the meticulous coordination and skill involved in executing such sequences. The camera seamlessly follows the action, keeping pace with the cars and revealing new elements of the spectacle, enhancing the sense of realism and intensity.

However, the film's narrative falls short at times, with a convoluted and dull storyline that may detract from the overall enjoyment. Joe Russo's writing, though it may not live up to the film's acting performances, hampers the potential of Extraction 2 to deliver a more compelling and engaging plot.

In summary, Extraction 2 delivers on its promise of top-notch action, showcasing Hargrave's expertise as a stunt coordinator. Despite its weaknesses in terms of narrative, the film's captivating action sequences, trust in its actors, and skillful execution make it a worthwhile watch for fans of the genre.
