New Delhi: The Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) marked the 75th anniversary of the Republic of India with a remarkable event that honored the contributions of lawyers to India's democracy. The occasion featured the launch of the book Lawyers of India in Freedom Struggle & in Independent India (1872-2022): 150 Years and Continued Glorious Contribution Toward the Centennial – 2047.

A very successful event was held at "Shantha," Neeti Bagh, and the galaxy of distinguished personalities witnessed the occasion. The book was released by hon'ble Mr. K.K. Venugopal, former Attorney General of India, and it was also presented to Mr.
R. Venkataramani, Attorney General of India. Some prominent legal community people and other high profiled guests attended the meeting.

In his speech, he complimented the indispensable role of lawyers across India's history as it realized how they have shaped the democratic fabric of the country.
He said, "The contribution of lawyers has always transcended the courtroom. They have been instrumental in guiding India to its democratic ideals, especially in times of struggle.".



SILF President Dr. Lalit Bhasin said that this book was important to keep the historical contributions of legal professionals: "This book is a tribute to the lawyers who have played an important role in the independence movement and, above all, in the development of a legal system that is the backbone of India's democracy," he said.


It covers a period of 150 years, from the colonial period to this contemporary era, through successive generations of lawyers that have contributed to the shaping of the country's laws. This highly informative book honors the greats-Mahatma Gandhi, Lala Lajpat Rai, and Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, and others who contributed towards the cause of Indian freedom and the post-independence legal educators and practitioners.

The book highlights the deep influence of legal professionals not only during India’s fight for independence but also during the establishment and evolution of the Indian Republic. This goes about lawyers as in Lala Lajpat Rai, with their legacy alive still, through and through forever an unyielding pursuit into reforms and Indian rights.
Moreover, this also delves into what legal profession led through various Indian legal sectors of the same into post-India independence progress which remained in keeping with an objective of it as fair just, equal as well as being a democracy.

The launch also marked an opportunity to celebrate the continued influence of lawyers in India's modern-day progress. As India approaches its centennial of independence in 2047, the book serves as a reminder of the vital role lawyers will continue to play in shaping the nation's future, ensuring justice and democratic values endure for generations to come.
