Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024: PM Modi Announces 1,000 Modern Facilities For Highway Drivers, Prioritizing Their Travel Conditions
Recognizing this, the government is formulating a comprehensive scheme to develop modern infrastructure, including buildings with provisions for food, clean drinking water, toilets, parking, and rest areas on all national highways.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Friday that the government is actively working on a novel scheme aimed at providing modern facilities for truck and taxi drivers along national highways. In the inaugural phase, the plan involves constructing 1,000 centers equipped with amenities such as resting areas, toilets, and drinking water for drivers, addressing a crucial need in the mobility sector.
Speaking at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, PM Modi highlighted the significant role played by drivers in the industry and the challenges they face. Long hours on the road without proper rest facilities contribute to their hardships, potentially leading to accidents. Recognizing this, the government is formulating a comprehensive scheme to develop modern infrastructure, including buildings with provisions for food, clean drinking water, toilets, parking, and rest areas on all national highways.

In the initial phase of this initiative, the government plans to establish 1,000 such facilities across the country. The objective is to not only enhance the quality of life for truck and taxi drivers but also to improve overall travel conditions, subsequently promoting better health and accident prevention.
PM Modi emphasized the government's understanding of the concerns faced by truck drivers and their families, expressing the need for a holistic approach to address these challenges. The proposed scheme aligns with broader efforts to prioritize the well-being of drivers and elevate their working conditions. As part of this initiative, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has mandated that all new trucks manufactured on or after October 1, 2025, must be equipped with air-conditioned cabins for drivers.
This announcement underscores the government's commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of drivers in the transportation sector. The three-day Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, with over 800 exhibitors from more than 50 countries, serves as a platform to showcase cutting-edge technologies, sustainable solutions, and breakthroughs in mobility. With participation from 28 vehicle manufacturers and over 600 auto component manufacturers, the event aims to drive innovation and collaboration within the mobility industry.
