Delhi's IGI Airport Plans A Pioneering Multi-Modal Transport Hub For Seamless Integration Of Diverse Transportation Modes
IGIA's long-term vision extends to enhancing the overall journey experience for travelers, encompassing their commute before reaching the airport.
The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi, under the management of GMR Airport Infrastructure Limited, is poised to revolutionize travel with the creation of a state-of-the-art multi-modal transport hub near Aerocity. This visionary project aims to seamlessly integrate bus, metro, and air services, representing a significant departure from the conventional focus solely on airport facilities. Instead, IGIA's long-term vision extends to enhancing the overall journey experience for travelers, encompassing their commute before reaching the airport.
Officials have revealed that the multi-modal hub will be strategically connected to essential transportation nodes, including an Interstate Bus Terminus (ISBT), the proposed Passenger Transport Centre (PTC), the upcoming phase-four line of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and the envisaged Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) station. Additionally, the hub will feature a station for the Automated Passenger Mover (APM) near the GMR Aerocity.
This ambitious initiative is designed to cater to passengers arriving from neighboring states such as Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. By providing unparalleled connectivity to the airport through various modes of transportation, the multi-modal hub aims to streamline the travel experience for a diverse range of travelers.
One significant challenge currently faced at the Delhi Airport is the absence of a dedicated facility for parking interstate buses. The proposed multi-modal hub addresses this gap, offering a solution that will greatly benefit passengers arriving from adjacent interstate cities. Notably, this enhanced infrastructure is expected to be particularly advantageous for those seeking to catch international flights, providing a convenient and well-connected hub for their journeys.
By integrating various modes of transportation and catering to passengers from a broad geographical spectrum, IGIA's multi-modal transport hub represents a progressive step towards enhancing travel infrastructure and connectivity. This initiative not only aligns with the evolving needs of modern travelers but also reinforces Delhi's status as a major transportation hub, facilitating smoother and more efficient journeys for passengers from diverse regions.
