Fraudsters have initiated deceptive practices under the guise of providing VVIP darshan of Lord Shri Ram, exploiting the fervor surrounding the upcoming inauguration of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya on January 22. Seizing the opportunity, cyber criminals have orchestrated a scam by promoting a fraudulent application (APK) named "Ram Janmabhoomi Grih Sampark Abhiyan."
Responding to the emerging threat, the Home Ministry has issued a preemptive alert to the public. The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center of the Ministry has released a video to raise awareness, emphasizing the monitoring of social media by the Cyber Crime Unit of the Special Cell of Delhi Police.
Perpetrators of online fraud promise VVIP darshan of Shri Ram to unsuspecting individuals who, once ensnared, are coerced into downloading the deceptive APK. Following the download, these criminals illicitly obtain account information, leading to unauthorized withdrawals from victims' bank accounts. A senior Delhi Police official has warned that downloading the APK for VIP darshan allows the criminals access to the victim's mobile device, facilitating the subsequent depletion of their bank account.
