Karan Johar Donned Rimple & Harpreet Narula's Exravagant Attire, Paying Tribute To Indian Heritage At Cultural Centre Premiere
The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre is a magnificent space that celebrates the cultural history of India through its breathtaking costumes, mesmerizing performances, and stunning visual arts. The grand opening of this cultural centre was attended by several prominent Hollywood and Bollywood stars, including the renowned filmmaker Karan Johar. Johar made a unique and splendid appearance at the event, dressed in an exquisite outfit designed by Rimple & Harpreet Narulah as an ode to the Maharajas and their extravagant lifestyle.
Rimple Narulah, an Indian Couturier and costume stylist, brought her inimitable aesthetic to Johar's outfit, which was designed to embody the persona of a modern-day Maharaja. The outfit reflected the journey of an eternal wanderer who collects motifs of reminiscence through his travels, and it was a perfect blend of contemporary and traditional styles.
Karan Johar is known for his unique style and aesthetic, and his outfit was no exception. The stunning tuxedo jacket featured an abstraction of the Tree of life, adorned with bejeweled peacocks. The inner waistcoat had a melange of botanical motifs, which were done with tonal aari ka kaam. The tuxedo had beautiful intricate zardozi work, inspired by a late 19th-century robe from the archive and done using dabka, nashi, sequins, and pearls.
Rimple & Harpreet have created a masterpiece with their beautiful interaction of miniature hand-done paintings of various birds and floral bouquets to convey the story of the jacket. These have been spectacularly embossed and meticulously appliqued inside gilded frames crafted with zardozi work. For the tuxedo, Rimple & Harpreet opted for lush silk velvet, which worked perfectly for the inspiration references as well as the embroideries they planned on doing.
Despite time constraints, Rimple & Harpreet were able to narrow down the main concept of the look and discuss the outfit specifications with Karan Johar on Zoom calls. The entire process was completed in around ten days, with the karigars working tirelessly around the clock to pull it off!
Rimple & Harpreet Narula have indeed carved a niche for themselves in the fashion industry with their exquisite styles and tastes. Their work reflects their passion for traditional Indian textiles and motifs, and their ability to blend them with contemporary styles to create stunning masterpieces. The outfit they designed for Karan Johar at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre is a perfect example of their talent and creativity.
