Mahindra Group's Chairman Emeritus, Keshub Mahindra, passes away at the age of 99

Chairman Emeritus of Mahindra Group, Keshub Mahindra, passed away at the age of 99. He was a renowned philanthropist and a leader in the Indian industry, known for his business acumen, professional integrity, and visionary leadership. Mahindra graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, USA, and joined Mahindra & Mahindra in 1947. He took over as Chairman in 1963 and transformed the company from a steel trading firm to a diversified federation of companies.

Mahindra played an active role in the industry and served on various committees appointed by the Government of India, including the Sachar Commission on Company Law & MRTP and the Central Advisory Council of Industries. From 2004 to 2010, he was a member of the Prime Minister's Council on Trade & Industry, New Delhi. He was also a member of the Apex Advisory Council of ASSOCHAM, an Honorary Fellow of the All India Management Association, and a member of the Council of the United World Colleges (International) in the United Kingdom. Mahindra was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre National de la Legion d'honneur by the French Government in 1987.

Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, paid tribute to his predecessor, stating that Keshub Mahindra was a source of inspiration and led the group from the front to preserve the legacy of the founders. His leadership ensured that the company remained rooted in ethics, values, and good corporate governance. Mahindra also served on the boards and councils of several private and public domain firms, including SAIL, Tata Steel, Tata Chemicals, Indian Hotels, IFC, and ICICI. He was also the Founder Chairman of HUDCO (Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited), Vice-Chairman of Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd, Chairman of Mahindra Ugine Steel Co. Ltd, and a Director of Bombay Dyeing & Manufacturing Co. Ltd. and Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation Limited.

Mahindra's passing is a great loss to the Indian industry, and his contributions to the corporate world and society will be remembered for generations to come.
