The Lion King is one of the biggest Disney films of all time, and it's back with a sequel. Mufasa The Lion King will tell the tale of Simba's father, Mufasa, who was a very beloved character. He was a great king, and fans fell in love with the way he ruled his kingdom. He was strong and kind at the same time, but sadly, we couldn't see him for long as he was killed by Scar (his younger brother) for the greed of the throne.

Anticipation among fans has always been very high when talking about Mufasa's story, and they will finally get what they have craved for a very long time. They will finally be able to witness how Mufasa became the king of the jungle and how he overcame all the setbacks throughout his journey to the top. The film will be directed by Barry Jenkins, who is known for his work on Moonlight.

The Lion King was a beloved animated classic that was released in 1994 and was later adapted by Jon Favreau in 2019. Both of these films went on to be very successful at the box office and are now considered two of the best projects Disney has ever worked on. The latest addition to this fan-favorite franchise will look to follow a similar path as well.

The official synopsis of the film reads, “Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.”

Aaron Pierre will be the voice of Mufasa, while Kelvin Harrison Jr. will be lending his voice to the villainous Scar. We will also see some familiar faces recapturing the role from the 2019 adaptation, including John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogan as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Donald Glover as Simba, and Beyonce Knowles Carter as Nala. Beyonce's daughter is also making her debut in this film, as she will voice Kiara, the daughter of Simba and Nala. The film is all set to be released in theaters on December 20.
