Narendra Modi Inaugurates New International Airport At Rajkot Costing 1405 crores
The airport, covering an area of 23,000 sqm, boasts the capacity to handle 1,280 passengers per hour.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced a two-day tour of Gujarat, during which he arrived in Rajkot on Thursday at approximately 3:15 pm. Prior to his arrival, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had already reached Rajkot. The Prime Minister was there to inaugurate the new terminal of Rajkot International Airport, which was constructed at a cost of 1,405 crores. The airport, covering an area of 23,000 sqm, boasts the capacity to handle 1,280 passengers per hour. It is equipped with modern amenities such as a solar power system, green belt, and rainwater harvesting facilities. Notably, it can accommodate large aircraft like Airbus A-380, Boeing 747, and Boeing 777 for takeoffs and landings.
The establishment of this new airport was deemed necessary due to the limitations of the existing 236-acre airport in Rajkot, which faced constraints on expansion owing to dense residential and commercial development around it. The new greenfield airport in Hirasar, Rajkot, was proposed and entrusted to the Airport Authority of India to meet the growing civil aviation requirements.
Addressing the gathering in Rajkot, Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude to the city, stating that Rajkot has been significant in his life. He remarked that the city was evolving into a "mini Japan." The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the newly inaugurated airport, emphasizing the benefits it would bring to the people of Gujarat and Saurashtra. He reassured the audience that his government has been committed to the welfare of all sections of society, including tribals and various castes, and has worked towards lifting the country out of poverty.
PM Modi acknowledged the challenges posed by natural calamities and offered his condolences to the affected families. He praised the efforts of the Bhupendra government in helping the affected families return to normalcy and assured that the central government was extending all possible support.
Recalling his earlier statement as Chief Minister about Gujarat resembling a "mini Japan," the Prime Minister proudly asserted that the people had proven those words to be true. He noted that the new airport would facilitate easier export of fruits and vegetables, thus benefiting the farmers in the region.
In conclusion, PM Modi hailed the inauguration of Rajkot International Airport's new terminal as a significant milestone for the city and the entire state of Gujarat. The modern facility is expected to provide a boost to regional development and enhance connectivity for both passengers and cargo.
