In a landmark move, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to participate in the program 'Mazdooron Ka Hit Mazdooron ko Samarpit' on December 25, 2023, via video conferencing. The focal point of the event is the handover of cheques totaling approximately Rs 224 crore to settle the long-standing dues of Hukumchand Mill workers in Indore. This marks the resolution of a protracted legal battle that ensued after the closure of the mill in 1992, which subsequently went into liquidation.

The Madhya Pradesh Government played a pivotal role in reaching a positive settlement, garnering endorsement from all stakeholders, including the courts, labour unions, and the affected mill workers. The comprehensive settlement plan involves the upfront payment of all dues by the Madhya Pradesh Government, taking possession of the mill land, and transforming it into a combined residential and commercial space.

Prime Minister Modi will address the gathering, acknowledging the significance of this resolution and honoring the perseverance of the Hukumchand Mill workers. The event, titled 'Mazdooron Ka Hit Mazdooron ko Samarpit,' is a testament to the government's commitment to addressing the concerns of the labor force and facilitating fair settlements.

In addition to the mill workers' dues settlement, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for a groundbreaking project—a 60 MW Solar Power Plant in the villages of Samraj and Ashukhedi in Khargone district. Spearheaded by the Indore Municipal Corporation, this solar power plant, valued at Rs 308 crore, holds the potential to save approximately Rs 4 crore per month in electricity bills for the corporation.

A noteworthy aspect of this initiative is the innovative financing through green bonds, with the Indore Municipal Corporation issuing bonds worth Rs 244 crore. Remarkably, this move positions the corporation as the first urban body in the country to issue green bonds. The response was overwhelming, with people from 29 states subscribing to bonds valued at about Rs 720 crore, three times the initial value issued.

The combined efforts to settle Hukumchand Mill workers' dues and establish a sustainable solar power plant underscore the government's commitment to economic justice, sustainable development, and harnessing clean energy solutions. The event is poised to mark a significant chapter in the journey towards addressing long-pending industrial labor issues and promoting environmentally conscious initiatives.
