The Punjab Plastic Waste Management Society (PPWMS) orchestrated an insightful "Awareness Workshop for Rag-pickers/Waste Collectors on Plastic Waste Collection, Segregation, and Sanitation" at Macchiwara, Ludhiana Municipal Council, Punjab. The event, organized in collaboration with the Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA), the implementing agency of PPWMS, aimed to educate and empower waste collectors on responsible plastic waste management practices.

Dr. Reena Chadha led the workshop, utilizing engaging activities and games to drive home the importance of proper plastic waste collection and segregation. Mr. Amandeep also contributed to the interactive session. Over 50 waste collectors and municipal officials actively participated in the program, hosted at the Ludhiana Macchiwara Municipal Council office. As part of the initiative, attendees received safety kits comprising jackets, gloves, masks, soaps, informative pamphlets, and refreshments.

The presence and support of Ludhiana Municipal Council officials, including Mr. Gurpal Singh (Executive Officer), Mrs. Navreet Kaur (Committee Facilitator), Mr. Sukhdev Singh (Sanitary Inspector), alongside other officials and sanitation workers, underscored the community-wide commitment to effective plastic waste management.

Mr. Rajeev Shrivastava, Secretary of PPWMS, highlighted the health benefits of the safety kit items for waste collectors. Emphasizing their potential to mitigate health hazards, he noted that the proper use of these items contributes to sustainable actions in plastic waste management while ensuring the health and sanitation of waste collectors—the unsung heroes of environmental preservation. Through similar programs, PPWMS has successfully established a network with over 600 waste collectors in the region.

The event culminated in a Cleanliness Drive, where all waste workers actively participated, efficiently clearing the area within an hour. This hands-on approach not only reinforced the workshop's teachings but also showcased the immediate positive impact of responsible waste management practices. As PPWMS continues its mission to foster awareness and collaboration, events like these play a pivotal role in creating a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
