In the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last 16 clash, Real Madrid secured a crucial 1-0 away victory over RB Leipzig, courtesy of Brahim Diaz's solitary goal. Despite a bright start from Leipzig, who had a goal disallowed early on due to offside, Real Madrid remained resilient.

Leipzig continued to press forward, with Benjamin Sesko testing Real Madrid's goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. However, it was Real Madrid who broke the deadlock against the run of play in the 49th minute, as Diaz evaded two Leipzig defenders before calmly slotting the ball past Peter Gulacsi.

Despite Leipzig's attempts to respond, Lunin denied Sesko's close-range effort shortly after the goal. Real Madrid focused on counterattacks, coming close to doubling their lead when Vinicius Junior struck the post.

Leipzig pushed for an equalizer, but Lunin's heroics kept them at bay, including a crucial save from Amandou Haidara's volley. The match ended with Real Madrid securing a clean sheet, leaving Leipzig with a tough task in the second leg.
