Lucknow Super Giants won their first game of the season and put their first points on the board after winning by 21 runs against Punjab Kings, who suffered their second consecutive defeat. LSG won the toss and opted to bat first, and their decision seemed the right one because they put a massive total of 199 runs on the board with the help of brilliant innings from Quinton de Kock, who had a half-century, Krunal Pandya, and Nicholas Pooran, who batted masterfully as well.

But Punjab was off to a great start as both Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow were looking in great touch and were hitting the ball sweetly. It was looking like Punjab would run away with it when the scorecard read 101/0 at the end of 11 overs, but the debutant Mayank Yadav had other plans when he single-handedly brought the game back to life by taking 3 wickets for just 27 runs in 3 overs.

It was a dream match for the 21-year-old youngster who ultimately won the game for his team. Dhawan tried his best and scored 70 runs off just 50 balls, and he will think his innings deserved something more than this bitter loss. Punjab Kings needed 10 runs per over, which was a tough task already, but when their middle order left the crease so cheaply, all hope was lost.
