United Nations International Human Rights Day Celebrated in New Delhi

United Nations International Human Rights Day was marked with grandeur at the Speaker's Hall, Constitutional Club, New Delhi. It was organized by the United Nations University for Global Peace (UNUGP USA) and The American University in collaboration with Empower Social and Educational Trust, India.

The event started with lamp lighting ceremony, wherein many delegates from the national and international level were present. Prof. Dr. Madhu Krishan, Chairman and Chief Rector of UNUGP and AUGP USA was there as Chief Guest with Mr. Deepak Singh as Seychelles Cultural Ambassador. They were greeted by Dr. Somsekher K, Deepak Dey, and Dr. Ghanshyam K.

Prof. Dr. Madhu Krishan in his keynote address emphasized the protection of human rights worldwide and efforts towards the promotion of peace, equality, and justice. Honorary doctorates and certificates of Peace Ambassador were presented to several distinguished individuals in recognition of their contributions toward peace.

A letter by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, signed by his spiritual advisor Dr. Mark Burns, commended Dr. Krishan's four decades of peacebuilding and appreciated the recently held Peace Summit in Sri Lanka attended by over 20,000 delegates.

Dr. Shonith Bhat, Dr. Sneha Dhobley, Dr. Vijay Kumar Pandit, Dr. Rajendra Borkar, Dr. Vijay Naidu, Dr. Jai Prakash, Dr. Deepak Kumar, and Dr. Rashmi Pandey received honorary doctorates. 

The event concluded with a fellowship dinner. Discussions at the dinner were about how human rights and peace initiatives should be furthered. Ms. Sonalli, Secretary General of Empower Social and Educational Trust, organized this event.
