Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that the railways are implementing safety measures for Vande Bharat trains, ensuring secure operations at varying speeds. The focus is on safety fencing at vulnerable locations, particularly for speeds between 110 kmph and 130 kmph, and extending it along the entire track for speeds exceeding 130 kmph. Responding to BJP MP Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi's inquiry about the safety of railway tracks amid the high speeds of Vande Bharat trains, Vaishnaw emphasized that safety holds the utmost priority for Indian Railways.

Vaishnaw outlined the comprehensive system in place for track inspection, maintenance, and repair. The measures include adopting modern track structures, regular patrolling of railway tracks, employing ultrasonic flaw detection testing to identify flaws in rails, and mechanizing track maintenance procedures. He underlined that these practices collectively contribute to a robust safety framework.

Crucially, the introduction of safety fencing at vulnerable locations is mandated for speeds ranging from 110 kmph to 130 kmph. For speeds exceeding 130 kmph, the minimum standard requires safety fencing along the entire track. This strategic approach aims to bolster safety and prevent potential hazards, aligning with the commitment to secure and efficient rail travel.

Responding to concerns raised by Lodhi about obstruction of railway tracks by anti-social elements, Vaishnaw acknowledged four reported incidents during the year 2023 (up to November). In response, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), in coordination with GRP/district police and civil administration, has taken actions against the arrested individuals in accordance with the law. These incidents underscore the need for ongoing vigilance and collaborative efforts to maintain the integrity and security of railway tracks.

On the subject of the introduction of new train services and stoppages for existing services, Vaishnaw emphasized that these decisions are part of an ongoing process. Factors such as traffic justification, operational feasibility, and resource availability play a pivotal role in determining the addition of new services or stoppages, including those for Vande Bharat services.

In conclusion, the Railway Minister's response underscores the commitment to safety and security for Vande Bharat trains, with a multifaceted approach that combines modern practices, rigorous inspection, and preventive measures to ensure the seamless and secure operation of high-speed rail services in India.
