WhatsApp Enables iOS And Android Beta Users To Send High-Definition (HD) Photos, Enhancing The Media-Sharing Experience
WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, is introducing a new feature that allows users to send high-definition (HD) photos. Initially available to beta testers on Android and iOS, this feature provides users with the option to choose a better quality when sending photos. However, the HD option only appears when users select a large-sized picture, as reported by WABetaInfo.
While the feature preserves the image dimensions, there will still be minor compression applied to the photo. As a result, sending photos in their original quality is not possible. The default option for all pictures remains "Standard quality," so users will need to manually select the HD option each time they want to send a photo with better quality.
To inform the recipient that a photo has been sent using the high-quality option, a new tag will be added to the message bubble. This tag serves as a visual indicator for the recipient.
The rollout of the ability to send HD photos is currently underway for select beta testers on Android and iOS. Over the coming weeks, it is expected to be made available to a wider user base.
Earlier this year, reports indicated that WhatsApp was working on this feature for Android beta. Subsequently, another report mentioned that the feature was also being developed for iOS beta. Now, with the feature gradually rolling out to beta testers, it seems that WhatsApp is inching closer to the official release of the HD photo sending capability on both platforms.
WhatsApp's decision to enhance photo quality during transmission addresses the desire of users to share higher-quality images. By providing the option for HD photos, WhatsApp aims to improve the overall media-sharing experience within the app.
